Leonard’s Glass

Leonard’s Glass is a short publication that pays tribute to Leonard Parr, my Grandad and his lifelong career within stained glass. Inspiration for this project came after finding a set of old business cards advertising my Grandad’s skills in manufacting and repairing traditional stained glass.

With words from both myself and my mum, one of the aims within this publication was to highlight the importance of traditional trades and how they still hold relevance within the 21st century.

With a career making stained glass spanning over 40 years, Leonard’s Glass shows a small collection of glass work made by my Grandad. Discussions shown within the publication refer to my Grandad’s passions for the arts, in particular movements such as Art Nouveau and Art Deco from the late 19th and early 20th centuries.

Words in the publication by my mum are handwritten to add a further personal touch that easily distinguishes my own words shown through digital text. Also featured are examples of stained glass patterns scanned from a book by Ed Sibbett Jr. first published in 1979, titled ‘Victorian Stained Glass Pattern Book.’

Leonard’s Glass acts as a visual time caspule for myself, family members and many others to look back upon as a way of celebrating both my Grandad and the work he made from now until many years to come.
