Oripeau: Spiromania
Oripeau is a graphic design project that operates as collaborative display panels within various public spaces. Starting in 2016, Oripeau gives artists and ‘non’ artists alike the opportunity to display poster outcomes of their choosing, with no specific topic or subject matter required.
Spiromania is a poster made from a range of spirograph patterns and shapes, it is also a visual representation of the ‘Spiromania’ craze during the 1960’s and 70’s. The processes used within the making of this poster started off with a Spirograph Drawing Set from Kenner Parker Toys.
Spiromania is a combination of both physical and digital ways of working, examples of physical methods include the drawing and layering of spirograph patterns using the Kenner Parker Toys Set. These outcomes were then scanned in to be used digitally, methods such as extreme cropping, bitmapping and halftone were used in order to create a range of iterations and possible final outcomes.
The Spirograph is a toy that many individuals can link back to their own childhoods, reinforcing a sense of nostalgia and past experiences, regardless of factors such as age, gender and location. Spiromania was posted to Oripeau’s display board in Nantes, France (n° 258) in 2021.
